Paper-Based, Disposable Devices for Microbial and Chemical Detection

Abstract Paper-based diagnostics for microbial and chemical analysis offer advances in simplicity, affordability, portability and potential for use in the field, including in resource-poor environments. Although the concept of paper-based analytics is not new, work over the past few decades has greatly expanded the capability of this technology through advances in fabrication, functionalization and integration of novel chemistries and sensing modalities. These developments are considered, along with principles of operation and current applications of the technology for chemical and microbial food safety testing.
