Overview

Project Description

In January 2024, members of the University of Wyoming Libraries and the Wyoming Geographic Information Science Center (WYGISC) received funding from Wyoming DataHub to build a web-accessible scholarly index and research data storage finder for all published research linked to the University of Wyoming and Wyoming community colleges. The Wyoming Research & Data Index (WRDI) aims to make bibliometric data and research data storage options findable and transparent for the extended Wyoming community. Based upon Cornell’s Data Storage Finder, the Data Storage component of WRDI allows users to find and compare data storage options available through the University of Wyoming and commercial vendors. Goals for this project include identifying opportunities for statewide researcher collaborations, assessing institutional trends in open access publishing, and cataloging article processing charges (APCs) paid by our researchers.

Funding Acknowledgement

This project was made possible by a grant from Wyoming DataHub provided to the University of Wyoming libraries and the Wyoming Geographic Information Science Center (WYGISC).

Data Sources

WRDI pulls its publication metadata using a combination of the OpenAlex API and Python, which is then translated using a PostGres database before being displayed within the index. OpenAlex, as an open-source platform, is constantly updating its methods, inclusions, and systems; more information on OpenAlex can be found on their website.

The University of Wyoming Libraries team does its utmost to ensure quality and accuracy within WRDI, however, due to the changeable nature of OpenAlex, some publications may be missed, or displayed metadata may be incorrect. Requests for edits, or corrections, or to add items by University of Wyoming affiliated authors that were not indexed, can be made to scholcom@uwyo.edu.

Note on Embargoes

Due to the data collection process, entries that have been embargoed at the time of harvesting will not show up as Open Access. After an embargo has ended, the entry may not update to reflect this.
