New findings of Neanderthal artifacts in Croatia – lithic assemblage from the Malo polje location – Krban, Trogir

Abstract The article presents the results of the lithic analysis of materials from the Malo polje – Krban site near Trogir. Among the approximately six thousand lithic finds, geofacts predominate, but there are also artifacts that have been analyzed in more detail. The artifacts mainly date from the Middle Paleolithic period (centripetal cores, scrapers), while those potentially dated to the Upper aleolithic are rare. Considering other Middle Paleolithic finds and sites in the immediate and distant vicinity, this site additionally confirms the presence of Neanderthals in the wider area of Trogir and Kaštela, which is also a characteristic of the wider Adriatic area.
